Waterproof flooring is easy to maintain

Chances that a floor will have a shortened lifespan are lessened when you choose waterproof flooring. You don’t need to worry about floor damage from faulty plumbing, spills, and muddy shoes. Waterproof flooring materials include vinyl, laminate, ceramic, and porcelain. A stone floor is also waterproof as long as it is sealed annually or as needed. You can find a wide assortment of waterproof floor coverings at Brian's Flooring and Design. We serve the greater Birmingham metro areas.

Vinyl

Vinyl plank flooring is a pet-friendly and practical alternative to hardwood flooring. Luxury vinyl is thicker than standard sheet vinyl. Thus, it can be more deeply embossed, so the wood look is more realistic. Luxury vinyl tiles also mimic wood as well as stone and ceramic. Brands with a wood-plastic composite (WPC) or a stone plastic composite (SPC) core are waterproof. The toughest brands have a 20+ mil transparent wear layer to protect the plank or tile design. Waterproof vinyl flooring can be installed anywhere in the home.

Laminate

Like luxury vinyl, laminate imitates natural flooring materials. Standard laminate brands won't be damaged by water if the water is cleaned up immediately. While luxury vinyl tolerates standing water for long periods, waterproof laminate brands usually repel water for up to 30 hours. After that time, damage may occur if water remains on the floor. Superior laminate products have an abrasion coefficient rating of AC3. These products have been tested by an independent entity and approved for areas in the home that receive heavy foot traffic.

Ceramic and porcelain

Porcelain is inherently waterproof, while ceramic repels water when it is glazed. Both clay-based materials last for decades, but harder and denser porcelain is the better material. It is the most durable tile on the market, and therefore, worth the extra cost. Ceramic tile tends to be neutral in color and standard in size. If you favor a wood look in the bathroom, consider porcelain tile. Designs are plentiful, and some of these designs mimic hardwood as well as stone. Consider using tile on walls or a backsplash to complement tile flooring.
